I booted the MacBookPro from a DVD, connected the USB drive to it, and Time machine restored everything. It wasn't perfect... some odd errors appeared. But one I booted from the DVD again and fixed disk permissions it seemed to be normal. By far, the easiest restore of a Mac I've ever done. Comment on Rogers High Speed Internet - monthly limits suck. by admin http://www.uselessfreeadvice.com/2008/04/15/rogers-high-speed-internet-monthly-limits-suck/#comment-23 admin Fri, 30 May 2008 19:38:29 +0000 http://www.uselessfreeadvice.com/2008/04/15/rogers-high-speed-internet-monthly-limits-suck/#comment-23 Who do I recommend? A 3rd party DSL provider would have these limits... so pretty much anyone EXCEPT rogers or bell. I saw a comment on another site that said these two companies are racing each other to the bottom on customer service. But seriously, Indonesia gets that kind of speed? When i think high tech, Indonesia doesn't immediately spring to mind. Who do I recommend? A 3rd party DSL provider would have these limits… so pretty much anyone EXCEPT rogers or bell. Is this the person from Craigslist Bangalore? Detail man... we need details! Second, regarding the couch potato VA: Oh my gosh!! At first I was thinking you had a mutually beneficial relationship lined up, then I kept reading. Glad you were able to back away slowly from that one. BTW, you said you're about ready for a second VA? Can you post about what you're having your VA's do? How many hours are you expecting them to be working per week? I'm still struggling trying to find work for my VA. It's not that I'm not busy, it's just that what I do is so diverse that the skill sets would be hard to find from a single person under $20 an hour. But remember Friedman himself writes in the revised edition of The World is Flat (p. 30), "Kulkarni suggested I hire a remote assistant in India to do all the research for this book. ... (I told him no one could be better than my longtime assistant... who is ten feet away!). As to the 4 hour work week, well, dream on. Just because a book posits a confection doesn't mean you have to swallow it. Whether the world is round or flat, normal rules apply. One doesn't always get what one pays for and that can be the case whether the hourly rate is high or low. Now let me ask you. How would you price your services if you were in Brickworks shoes, at cost or at value? Obviously the publicity isn’t going to save these companies, it’s going to kill them. If you're still interested in giving it another go, Sunday (www.asksunday.com/sundayprojects) has a projects division which handles work out of our Philippines division for our members - many of whom are individuals and small business owners. Response has been overwhelmingly positive since we launched this service. Please reach out of us if you're interested and we can chat about your needs and see if our offering would be a good fit for your needs. I’m sorry to hear you’ve been burned a few times.

One of my blogs needed a few simple changes to the theme / template (which I zipped up and sent them). Maybe 1 - 5 hours of work max for someone with a little wordpress experience. 2 different companies quoted me for outrageous amounts of time. One guy said 40 hours and another, get this, 3 weeks of full time work!!! I sent each of them emails saying, "You understand this is for edits to an EXISTING theme... not a new theme from scratch. This shouldn't take over 5 hours." ... I didn't hear back from either of them. I had almost the exact same experience with a few providers on oDesk!
