Keep it on the down low - How to succeed as a teacher

You are ONLY a teacher. Nothing else.
When some other teachers would ask what I was doing with my laptop at lunch (yes, on a scheduled break) if I mentioned that I was writing a magazine article or working on a my web site that was frowned upon.
One teacher even said “Oh, so you aren’t a REAL teacher.” There was another teacher who ran his own business and he was looked down upon by the others. For some reason, they thought he couldn’t do both effectively.
Another school I know had a realtor who did his realty work outside of school hours. Again, lots of snyde comments about him (not to him, but usually after he left of course). For the record, these two were excellent teachers.
Solution - I am a teacher and nothing but. Don’t tell anyone of your outside activities. If they can’t do their one job properly, how could anyone else possibly do two? Keep it quiet.
